Our new series of gARTen Comics Videos combines elapsed time and regular speed video, still photos and music to bring viewers along on our adventures, as we share the gARTen recipe: Compassion + Music + Day-Glo 'Trash Art' = Magic. Whether it's exhibiting art, presenting music, teaching Flower Power or all of the above, we'll do our best to report our musical and artistic activities in a musical, artistic way. You can check out all the Issues of gARTen Comics Videos over at Doctor Danger's Facebook Page.

the gARTen @ 713 Cookman

Our latest -- Issue #5 -- began when Adult Art Instructor Tara Loversidge-Nixon brought a group of non-verbal, autistic adults from the LADACIN Network community on a field trip to the gARTen @ 713 Cookman, by invitation of her close friend Jenn Hampton, AKA the gARTen Godmother. Jenn noticed that one visitor was particularly taken with "Coming or Going", a piece constructed from cut and torch-formed Tide and Hershey Syrup bottles and found objects; he was so excited that Jenn made a spur of the moment decision to gift him the piece. When we saw the photos taken during the exchange, and heard how enthusiastic our visitors had been, we knew we had to do a class with this group. Unfortunately, since many of the clients are in wheelchairs and the gARTen is not at this time accessible, an on-site class wasn't possible (yet!), but it turned out okay since we got to see the Network's wonderful Wannamassa facilities, and meet many more cool clients and inspirational teachers.

Come along then, on gARTen Curator and Instructor Joe Harvard's visit to LADACIN Network, on Thursday afternoon, June 22, 2017, as we meet some members of their adult autism program, make lots of new friends, and learn that "non-verbal" does not mean "quiet". Thanks to Jenn at Parlor Gallery, and to Tara and everybody at LADACIN.

Help Us Turn Trash Into Art

We collect plastic from streets and sidewalks, beaches, lots and laundromat trash cans, clean it, repurpose it, paint it Day-Glo and display it in an outdoor gallery for the community to enjoy.
