It's been a watershed week for the gARTen @ 713 Cookman in terms of film coverage, with teams from NYFA, NJTV, & OLL filming at the gARTen @ 713 Cookman.

Make up!  Aidan gets his Dad ready for a grueling week of filmmaker's visits.

First, Natalia, Ida & Violet [photo below] spent Thursday afternoon talking to founder Joe Harvard and filming inside our outside gallery [see the previous gARTen bLOG]. The itinerary for Natalia's NYFA final project on the importance of recycling included a live demo of "trash art" and a trip up to Cookman Creamery's roof for the executive view, and we cannot wait to see the film after the August 18 screening in NYC [regrettably Joe can't attend, he'll be in Boston]. Clearly the team investigated more than Cookman Creamery's roof, which means they'll be back for the best vegan ice cream imaginable.

On Sunday, our own Mallory Massara, with her Ingest associate Ledd on camera, interviewed Joe inside the gARTen for the upcoming NJTV In Your Neighborhood special on Asbury Park. We're proud to have any part in Mal's first Producer credit, & are counting the days until the piece airs as part of the live broadcast from AP on August 30.

Last night -- Tuesday, Aug. 15 -- our third request came through our gARTen Godmother, Jenn Hampton. This time it was from Emily Casey, who was eager to include the gARTen in her dream-sequence-like music video for the new Out Like Lambs LP. What better place for a strange and magical dream than the gARTen? And what cooler way to make videos for your new LP than to ask local filmmakers to pick a song, and then make & submit their interpretive creations?! We're honored to be included.

Plus: we got a door out of the deal!

The other big news is the arrival of Joe Harvard's son, Aidan Mars, here with his Mum, Cathy, for his annual US visit. It's great to have him on board, helping receive guests and assisting in projects like bottle removal and the mounting of the 5th & 6th bottle chains. Welcome, Aidan!

EDITOR'S NOTE: Nobody has captured the night view, to my knowledge, using a good camera. I have been refining DIY methods of capturing both the background & a subject's face for future filming, though, and if nobody else with a good camera does it soon, I'll borry one & do it myself. - jh

Help Us Turn Trash Into Art

We collect plastic from streets and sidewalks, beaches, lots and laundromat trash cans, clean it, repurpose it, paint it Day-Glo and display it in an outdoor gallery for the community to enjoy.
