It's been a busy time for the gARTen since our Art All Night appearance. This included participating in another cool Parlor Gallery opening, doing a lot of gardening work due to unprecedented growth caused by the heavy rains, and teaching a Flower Power class for the wonderful clients and staff in the Adult Autism Program at LADACIN Network, and . We'll be announcing dates soon for a couple of classes in 'Flower Power: Turning Trash into Art' at the gARTen, one for youngsters and another for adults, to raise money in support of the gARTen @ 713 Cookman.

We made a number of new pieces which were assembled as part of our AAN goal of creating a 24-hour version of our beloved gARTen @ 713 Cookman, including the bottle-and-bottlecap Brooklyn Bridge we made in homage to the event's Roebling Wire Works location. Our conversations with the City of Asbury Park left us hopeful of establishing a west side gARTen location this summer, and the plan was to make that the home for the new Joe Harvard AAN creations. Alas the gARTen West idea was not to reach fruition in time, so we've brought them home to the gARTen @ 713 Cookman.

In order to make room for these and other new pieces we've done some rearranging, with much more to come. We've also opened up the area at the very back of the gARTen as a gallery for some of our larger plastic, trash art statuary. There's still some serious work to be done reorganizing the right corner we use for storage, which still has some stuff left from the massive pile of junk we inherited when we moved in, but all things in due time.

We do our best to add a few pieces each week, so that our frequent flyers have something new to see. Here's some shots from this week's work.

Help Us Turn Trash Into Art

We collect plastic from streets and sidewalks, beaches, lots and laundromat trash cans, clean it, repurpose it, paint it Day-Glo and display it in an outdoor gallery for the community to enjoy.
